July 24, 2008 - Day 44
More good news from the NICU today....
Brendan's nurse discussed his feedings and how well he is doing with them to his doctors and they decided to remove his feeding tube. Also no bradys or desats today..at all! He also has been at room air for 24 hours straight, normally he would have to go up to anywhere from 25-30% oxygen at some point. So they are going to try weaning him off the oxygen tomorrow..which means removing the nose canulla. Now this is all great news but we are proceeding with caution. The nurse said it could go smoothly or they could have to put back the feeding tube, nose canulla, etc.
Tonight the nurse fed Brendan right before we got there so unfortunately we didn't get to hold him. But we got to look at him and touch him in the isolette. They prefer you don't move him after a feeding so he has less chances of spitting up. He also really enjoys laying on his tummy.
Hopefully tomorrow will be the first of many times we get to see Brendan without any tubes.
