July 20, 2008- Day 23

July 2, 2008 - Day 23

Today was a big huge day for Brendan! He had a couple Brady's and desats but continues to bring himself out of them, which means that he is figuring out how to really breathe on his own. Also today the doctor's ok'ed Brendan to start trying and learning to bottle feed. He did ok with the bottle for his first time ...he sucessfully ate 7cc's of milk from the bottle the remainder was fed through the feeding tube.

Tonight Devin held Brendan he is a pro at this dad stuff already. And Brendan is content to be in his dads arms. Together they worked more on Brendan and the pacifier. I think Devin has made it his personal mission to make sure Brendan does well with the pacifier.

The nurse tonight was Maleek, she was great with Brendan. She also explained to us that they ran more testing on Brendan today and discovered that he is ceftazidime resistant. From what I understand that means he has a colony of bacteria in him and the medicine they use to treat it, ceftazidime, won't work on Brendan. So for now he is in isolation. Because of him being in isolation all nurses, staff and anyone besides Devin and I who come into contact with Brendan must wear a gown and gloves.

Overall a good day!
