July 22, 2008 - Day 42
Brendan had a good day today. He didn't have any bradys but he did still have a couple desats. He also took his 6, 9, 12 and 3 o'clock feedings totally from the bottle. After those feedings he had little to no emesis (spit up issues). He is back to his old tricks of ripping out tubes. Ann Marie, his nurse, said he ripped out his NG(feeding) tube today a couple times.
Tonight I held Brendan again he slept the whole time. While I was there his doctor came over to ask if I had any questions. She gave me some good news. Although they normally wouldn't transition a baby, Brendan, from the isolette to a open crib until they weigh 1800 grams they are going to try it out with Brendan this weekend. This is because he has been doing really well with maintaining his temperature while we hold him. He has been breathing room air for long enough that they are confident he can breath on his own. But for now they are keeping the nose canulla in as a precautionary measure. He hasn't had any apnea episodes since they stopped giving him the caffeine ...such a relief! Still no estimate as to when he will come home. But this doctor, Dr. Johnson, really adores Brendan she kept saying what a sweet baby he is.
So good news all around...hope it keeps coming!
