July 11, 2008 - Day 32

July 11, 2008 - Day 32

Today was another good day for Brendan with, of course, more changes. He is still at 22-23% oxygen but is down to 1liter flow. Once he is stable with that for awhile they will transition him to breathing without the nose canula. They had to add an IV line in the back of his heel, they call it the high heel vein, it was one of the few veins they haven't used on him. Also they reinserted the feeding tube because he was getting to stressed out during his feeds and was having some reflux issues. Reflus is very common with preemies most of them outgrow it. But for now they are giving Brendan two medicines for the reflux, reglan and zantac. They are also offering him 15cc's of milk every 3 hours for his feedings, seeing what he takes from the bottle and the rest goes through the feeding tube. They are also hoping the meds will help stop the reflux which will in turn stop the brady's and desats.

Today I got to hold and feed Brendan. He slept for most of our visit except for his feeding time. He did take all 15cc's from his bottle for me though and only spit up about 1cc, according to the nurse
