July 18, 19 & 20, 2008 - Day 38, 39 & 40
Brendan had a busy weekend full of sleeping, eating and growing.
Friday - Devin and I went to see Brendan before the sun was up. He was of course asleep but did wake up for us for a couple minutes. He had a pretty good night Thursday into Friday with only one brady and no desats. While we were there he had a couple desats but no bradys.
Saturday - Brendan had a couple brady's overnight and throughout the day. He had desats too but they were all self limiting. They upped Brendan's dosage of Zantac to three times a day to see if it lessens the reflux.
Sunday - Brendan had one brady overnight. His morning/day nurse took out his feeding tube to reinsert it in a different postion. She noticed, and told the doctors, that since reinserting the tube Brendan did not have any bradys or desats. So the theory is that maybe the feeding tube was in a bad spot which was making his reflux worse. They still believe the reflux is what causes the majority of his bradys. Tonight he is getting a blood transfusion, 24 ounces, because his hemoglobin was low. The nurse said it is common for preemies to need blood because they have so much blood drawn everyday for testing. He isn't in any immediate danger but they want to get this blood in him before it gets to be a situation.
Tonight I held Brendan. He slept the entire time I held him, but he was making hillarious faces...he must have been having some good dreams. Tonight was bath night..I did the bath. It was also weigh-in night ....Brendan now ways 1620 grams or 3.5 pounds. This is great progress for him with his weight. Also we got to hear Brendan cry some good strong crys.
